A) thank god the WDA brought Sony to Swales where many people learnt valuable electronic assembly skills and how good to see work coming back from China to South wales,.

B) WAg now needs to get loads of these into every school AND properly qualified IT teachers who understand programming and can teach it, no more of IT being about using microsoft progs etc.

I remember my 1st spectrum (we owe a lot to Sir Clive), when my daughter was ten her brothers were older, for those who had one or an amstrad you will remember the weekly mags and typing in new progs. My daughter soon learnt that commas, full stop colons etc were something called syntax not grammar, and she read and tried to understand what she was typing in which was of course programming in basic, and she understood why you saved it and the digital code being played back from a tape recorder.

One day in work The boss called me and said my daughter wanted to speak to her dad.

She said Dad I have just typed in lives = 10 hit =1000 near hit =10, so if I change lives to 100 and hit to 1000 then near hit to 100 will I have more lives and bigger scores, I said well done . try it.

End result was she scored a number of massive scores, then changed the variables back and watch her brothers wear their fingers to the bone. NO doubt had there been decent IT teachers she would have followed up because she was full of question, but it ended and her natural skills at art came to the front. However this shows kids need this opportunity to shine and we need those that want skill set to get it.

We are all engineers! It just needs a better education system to promote that. Ironically Comrade Carwyn's Dad was a Technology Teacher and HMI adviser for Technology I think.
